Nigeria Arrests and Repatriates Turkish Fugitive to Face Prison Sentence

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and repatriated 61-year-old Turkish national Acar Huseyin, who fled Turkey after being convicted of fraud.

Huseyin was sentenced by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days in prison earlier this year. He reportedly escaped Turkey shortly after the judgment, traveling through parts of the Middle East before entering Nigeria.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed that Huseyin had been attempting to quietly settle in Nigeria to evade Turkish authorities. Acting on a Red Notice issued by INTERPOL Ankara in July 2025, the INTERPOL NCB Abuja conducted intelligence-led operations that led to his arrest in Abuja.

Following proper documentation and collaboration with international partners, Huseyin was repatriated to Istanbul to commence his prison term.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the INTERPOL unit’s professionalism, emphasizing that Nigeria will not serve as a refuge for fugitives and reaffirming the NPF’s commitment to international cooperation against transnational crime.
