The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that it will resume enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy starting 2nd January 2026.
The announcement, made in a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the resumption follows a review of emerging security concerns and the need to protect citizens.
CSP Hundeyin clarified that the decision awaits the final determination of an ongoing court case, but the court has not restrained the Police from enforcing the law on tinted vehicle windows.
“In the spirit of responsibility and public convenience, enforcement was previously suspended to allow motorists time to regularize their documentation,” the statement read.
The Police noted that criminals have exploited the gap created by the suspension, using tinted vehicles to conceal identities for crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent acts. Consequently, the Force deemed it necessary to resume enforcement as a proactive measure for community safety.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be professional, rights-respecting, and compliant with existing laws.
Motorists are urged to apply for Tinted Glass Permits through approved channels and ensure their vehicles meet all legal requirements.
