The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued Reverend Ephraim Yakubu, a clergyman abducted on December 3 in Agingi Village along Rukuba Road, Miango, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Military sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that Reverend Yakubu was dragged away by armed men, suspected members of a kidnap cell operating in the area.
During a patrol on December 4 at 7:40 a.m., troops engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle on the high grounds around Miango, forcing them to abandon their victim and flee.
The clergyman was later found tied and hidden beneath a rock formation. He sustained injuries during captivity and was immediately evacuated to the 3 Division Military Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
Soldiers also recovered a fabricated rifle and a magazine loaded with eight rounds of 9mm ammunition at the scene.
Military authorities stated that operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing kidnappers and dismantle their network.
The Plateau corridor continues to face recurring kidnappings, communal attacks, and armed incursions, despite ongoing security operations.
