Nigerian Army Warns Public About Fake Social Media Accounts

The Nigerian Army has alerted the public to fraudulent social media accounts being operated by individuals falsely claiming to represent the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

In a statement on Friday, Army spokesperson Colonel Apollonia Anele clarified that the COAS has no official social media presence on any platform. She warned that these fake accounts could be used to defraud people, solicit funds, or spread false information in the name of the COAS or the Nigerian Army.

Colonel Anele urged Nigerians to exercise “extreme caution and remain vigilant,” advising them not to engage, respond, or share information from these accounts.

She also assured that the Army is taking all necessary steps to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, who will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
