Nigerian Energy Commission Allocates N119 Million for Director-General’s Land Cruiser

The Nigerian Energy Commission has earmarked N119 million in its 2026 budget for the purchase of a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep for its Director-General/CEO. The allocation was listed under the budget line: “Procurement of brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep for the Director General/CEO of the Commission.”

This expenditure forms part of a broader pattern of vehicle-related spending within federal government agencies. For instance, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) plans to spend N1.1 billion on an SGF annex serving as quarters for presidential aides, alongside N1.2 billion for the acquisition of luxury vehicles, including jeeps, saloon cars, and pick-up trucks.

At the State House, the Tinubu-led presidency has budgeted N3.3 billion for the purchase and replacement of operational vehicles in 2026. This includes N2.5 billion for State House vehicles, N758 million for replacing SUVs, and N115 million for tyres for bullet-proof vehicles, ambulances, and other operational vehicles.

The continued high expenditure on government vehicles and related maintenance has drawn public attention, particularly given calls for fiscal prudence amid Nigeria’s economic challenges. Historical data shows that in 2024, the presidency spent N366 million on tyres alone over three days, highlighting persistent concerns over resource management.
