Seven Killed in Midnight Terror Attack on Sokoto Community

At least seven residents were killed following a brutal terrorist attack on Ƙyara town in the Birnin Gobir Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The assault, which occurred on Wednesday night, involved over 100 attackers who stormed the town in a coordinated operation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants surrounded the town, blocking major entry and exit points before moving freely for several hours, attacking residents and leaving multiple people injured. Families buried the deceased on Thursday according to Islamic rites, while the injured were taken to various hospitals, some in critical condition.

The attack coincided with a recent abduction of 38 people from Lajinge district, also in Birnin Gobir, highlighting the escalating insecurity in the region. Local residents expressed frustration over the lack of immediate response from Nigerian security forces, noting that Nigerien operatives only intervened after the attackers had withdrawn.

The incident underscores a growing cross-border dimension to violence in eastern Sokoto, where communities continue to face repeated attacks, killings, abductions, and property destruction. Sokoto State authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
