The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, has reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to safeguarding the nation, calling on citizens to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
Speaking through the Chief of Administration, Rear Adm. Jonathan Mamman, during the Navy’s fourth-quarter 2025 route march in Abuja, Abbas commended personnel for their impressive turnout and high physical fitness standards. He emphasized that physical readiness is central to national defence, urging officers and ratings to take personal responsibility for their health and well-being beyond routine exercises.
“Bravo Zulu to all of you for your dedication. Your health and fitness are vital pillars of our nation’s defence architecture. You are the first custodians of your own health,” Abbas stated.
The CNS reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to operational readiness across all theatres, highlighting its involvement in counterterrorism and internal security operations nationwide. He stressed that the Navy, as part of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, is deployed wherever security challenges exist—north-east, north-west, south-south, and south-east.
Abbas also underscored the critical role of local intelligence in sustaining recent security gains, noting that ongoing operations are coordinated within a tri-service framework involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with support from the DSS, police, and other security agencies.
“Security is not the responsibility of the military and police alone. Citizens must provide information. Once we have it, we will do our best to protect you,” he added.
The route march, covering over five kilometres, involved officers and ratings serving within Abuja.
