Comedian Nikki Glaser is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at her hosting experience at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards, sharing several jokes that didn’t make it to the telecast. From quips about Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts to playful digs at Hollywood stars and PEOPLE’s Sexiest Men Alive, Glaser revealed the material she had prepared but ultimately kept offstage.
Brad Pitt Joke That Almost Made the Show
Glaser, 41, appeared on The Howard Stern Show shortly after hosting the Globes, where she discussed a joke aimed at Brad Pitt’s role in the racing movie F1.
“When a man turns 60, he gets to play a racecar driver. Meanwhile, after 35, every role for a woman is a tired mom who hates her life,” she said she had considered.
She added a more playful jab about Pitt actually doing his own driving in the film:
“Brad, you were so good that I was almost convinced you’ve driven yourself somewhere in the last 30 years. But Brad did a lot of his own driving in the movie. And Brad, I don’t want to embarrass you, but your blinker was on the whole time.”
Other Cut Jokes
Glaser also shared unused jokes about other Hollywood stars:
- Sean Penn: Glaser had several quips prepared, including, “Sean Penn is nominated tonight. I’m assuming for best neck veins?” and “Two of the hardest working actors in Hollywood are here tonight: Sean Penn’s lower eyelids.” She ultimately kept her joke mild, calling Penn “a sexy leather handbag.”
- Jonathan Bailey: On PEOPLE’s Sexiest Men Alive, she said, “Jonathan is the first openly gay man to be named the Sexiest Man Alive. And at first I was like, do we really need to say ‘openly’? Then I looked at past winners and I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, we do.’”
- Sydney Sweeney: Glaser joked about the box office for one of her films: “There was a movie this year where Sydney Sweeney played a lesbian who just bounced around in tiny shorts for two hours and it made $14.”
- Julia Roberts: Glaser admitted Roberts was “untouchable” when it came to jokes. Her cut line was: “Julia Roberts is nominated for After the Hunt. I don’t know what it’s about, but I’m assuming the hunt was to find someone who’s seen it.”
Balancing Edgy Humor with Respect
Glaser emphasized the challenge of striking the right tone for a high-profile awards show. She told Stern that she aimed to avoid predictable jokes while still delivering laughs:
“Before my Sean Penn joke, I was very nervous. I just didn’t want to make him upset. Once I got past that, I could loosen up.”
Regarding her approach to roasting celebrities, Glaser said:
“As long as I really like these people and respect what they do, I can get away with saying something negative… It really does come from a place of love.”
Her opening monologue at the Globes included humor about Leonardo DiCaprio dating younger women, CBS News, and her own crush on Michael B. Jordan, showing her range from playful to self-deprecating.
Nikki Glaser’s Hosting Legacy
This marked Glaser’s second consecutive year hosting the Golden Globes, and she’s already developing a tradition of revealing cut jokes post-show. Fans can expect her candid behind-the-scenes humor to continue in the future, offering a glimpse of the material that almost made the telecast.
