‘NIPOST Paystack Portal to Eliminate Postal Inefficiencies’

The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) Paystack Customs Duty Payment Portal to streamline payments for parcels coming into the country and eliminate long-standing inefficiencies in postal transactions.

The platform was officially launched in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Rafiu Adeladan.

Dr. Tijani said the digitalized payment solution would reduce human-to-human contact, eliminate delays, and improve efficiency in line with global best practices. He noted that the innovation aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priorities for advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

“For years, too many Nigerians importing small parcels or business goods have faced the same frustrations — hidden customs charges revealed only at pickup, long queues at post offices, and endless social media complaints about inefficiency,” the Minister said.

“These are not just customer-service problems; they are barriers to trade, e-commerce, and the daily hustle of small businesses trying to compete globally. When citizens lose time and money navigating inefficient systems, we all lose value as a nation.”

He expressed optimism that the new portal would transform customer experiences, boost NIPOST’s efficiency, and increase government revenue from postal operations.

A Milestone for Digital Public Service

The Minister commended NIPOST for working with the private sector to deliver a technology-driven solution, saying the initiative “reduces friction, restores trust, and turns government into a platform for innovation.”

He described the development as a milestone toward a digitally enabled Nigeria, where public institutions leverage partnerships to enhance transparency and service delivery.

NIPOST Spearheads Transformation

The Postmaster General of the Federation, Engr. Tola Odeyemi, said the new platform represents a major step in NIPOST’s transformation journey, combining public service with fintech and innovation.

“Today, we are witnessing a new chapter in NIPOST’s story — one that blends our legacy of public service with the power of technology, fintech, and innovation,” she said.

“In this new era of digital trade and e-commerce, connection means more than delivery. It means convenience, transparency, and trust — and that’s exactly what this collaboration represents.”

Engr. Odeyemi explained that through partnerships with Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox, NIPOST has built a seamless system for international inbound parcels that simplifies customs payments, enables online transactions, and facilitates doorstep delivery.

She added that the solution will allow government to track postal revenues transparently and address long-standing customer complaints about inefficiencies, delays, and bureaucracy.

“Together, we are solving a customer pain point that Nigerians have voiced repeatedly — on social media, in post offices, and through feedback. With this system, we are delivering the convenience and reliability our customers deserve,” she said.
