Nollywood actress Nkechi Sunday Blessing has revealed one of the most disturbing experiences she encountered at the beginning of her acting journey. Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the actress opened up about the kinds of outrageous and inappropriate scripts she was offered as a newcomer.

“I Was Given a Script to Sleep With a Dog” — Nkechi Shares

Nkechi disclosed that one of the very first scripts she received asked her to play a scene involving bestiality—an idea she found horrifying and completely unacceptable.

In her words:

“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense.

It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people will associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies.”

Standing Her Ground

According to the actress, she refused to compromise her values, even though she was new in the industry and anxious to secure roles. She noted that, immediately she declined the script, several other aspiring actresses rushed to pick it up.

“I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today,” she added.

Nkechi also recalled being handed another script that demanded an extreme and degrading performance. She rejected that one as well, insisting it would have damaged her image before her career had even begun.

The Turning Point

After leaving one of the production venues in frustration, Nkechi said she met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who later gave her a role in Through The Fire by Emem Isong—a project she describes as the true beginning of her rise in Nollywood.
