Nigerian singer Ruger has expressed shock and concern following the sudden death of Afrofuji artiste Destiny Boy, who passed away at the age of 22 on January 18, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The young singer is survived by his wife and the child he welcomed in November 2024.
The news of Destiny Boy’s death spread rapidly after a disturbing video emerged online showing him lying motionless in the backseat of a car, with wool allegedly inserted in his nostrils as he was being taken to a mortuary. The clip quickly went viral, sparking widespread confusion and speculation over the circumstances of his death.
As of this report, no official cause of death has been released. Rumors circulating on social media include claims that he fell ill earlier in the day or that he died at a herbalist’s residence. None of these claims have been verified.
Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Ruger questioned the lack of investigation and public accountability:
“Bruh people will just post that someone has died and everyone will move on. W.tf caused his death, who was he with, what was the boy eating or drinking. No autopsy, NOTHING!!!! We just have to accept that he’s dead. My God RIP Destiny Boy 💔”
In a follow-up response to a fan, Ruger added:
“I agree but most deaths are caused by human beings so someone has to be held accountable my bro.”
Destiny Boy was considered one of the rising stars in the Afrofuji and Afrobeats scene, and his passing has been described by fans and colleagues as a devastating loss to the Nigerian music industry.
Additional videos have surfaced online suggesting that Destiny Boy vomited before his death or may have ingested a local concoction, with some speculating poisoning. Fuji music legends Pasuma and Saheed Osupa reportedly advised that the late singer should not be buried immediately, further fueling calls for a proper investigation.
Social media reactions:
- @seyi___vibez: “It’s really disturbing how death is announced with zero answers. No context, no truth, just ‘RIP’ and life moves on. Rest in peace, Destiny Boy 💔.”
- @BigT33__: “If you ask what killed him, they begin to call you ‘insensitive.’”
- @YahuzaAmadu: “Rest in peace, Destiny Boy. May his family and friends find strength in a moment that makes no sense at all 💔.”
