Former Governor Peter Obi has donated a total of ₦20 million to support education and healthcare initiatives in Anambra State.
Obi contributed ₦5 million to the College of Nursing Sciences at the Diocesan Hospital, Amichi, for infrastructural development, and ₦15 million to St Felix Hospital, Nnewi, to enhance healthcare services.
The Anglican Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Rt Revd Ephraim Ikeakor, praised Obi for his consistent commitment to public service and community development, noting that his philanthropic efforts are never tied to political ambition. The Bishop highlighted that Obi’s yearly visits to the hospital demonstrate his sincerity and passion for uplifting society.
During his visit to Immaculata Girls’ Secondary School, Nnewi, Obi was warmly received by students. The Students’ Union leader and other students expressed gratitude for past donations, including buses, computers, and generators, and appealed for additional support such as vehicles, laptops for WAEC exams, and solar power. Obi promised to assist the school’s requests and encouraged students to pursue education seriously, citing it as a tool for global relevance.
At St Felix Hospital, Obi commended the medical staff and encouraged them to continue delivering quality care. Hospital officials shared plans to establish a multi-specialty facility and a School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Obi reiterated the importance of purposeful leadership and called for society to celebrate leaders dedicated to serving humanity.
“With education, you can become another Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Prof Chinyere Okunna, or Chimamanda Adichie,” he told students.
