Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has presented new allegations claiming that Senator Ned Nwoko married Nigerian actress Regina Daniels when she was underage and orchestrated actions to conceal her age.
According to official records, Regina Daniels was born in October 2001, making her 17 years old at the time her marriage to Nwoko was publicly confirmed in May 2019. This age falls below Nigeria’s legal age of consent and is covered under the Child Rights Act.
Allegations by Sowore
In a public statement, Sowore accused Senator Nwoko of engaging in several illegal and unethical acts, including:
- Changing Daniels’ full name from Regina Nneamaka Favour Ojeogwu to Regina Daniels.
- Obtaining a falsified voter’s card to conceal her age.
- Introducing the actress to drugs, allegedly to facilitate his advances.
- Traveling internationally with Daniels to countries including Jordan, the UAE, and Egypt, using her passport, which allegedly showed she was underage.
Sowore stated:
“Records indicate she was born in October 2001 and married in May 2019 at age 17. Evidence suggests Senator Nwoko obtained a fake INEC voter’s card to conceal her age and introduced her to drugs to enable him to force himself on her.”
He claimed that for “curious reasons,” the couple did not travel to Europe or North America, citing legal implications.
Regina Daniels Speaks Out
The actress has publicly shared her personal struggles on social media, alleging coercion and threats involving her family.
In a series of Instagram posts, Daniels said:
“I never thought I would do this but my big brother and big sister have been arrested… my baby sister might be arrested soon until I return, and according to him, return to rehab.”
She also expressed distress over Nwoko’s insistence that she undergo a rehabilitation program, describing the situation as humiliating:
“I’m trying, I’m really trying to be the bigger person… Leave my family alone Ned! And leave me alone too! It is obvious it’s war!”
Daniels’ posts have highlighted her emotional turmoil and a sense of public exposure.
Legal and Social Implications
If proven true, the allegations could constitute violations of Nigeria’s Child Rights Act, electoral law, and potentially criminal drug-related statutes. Sowore has pledged that further evidence will be made public.
The situation has drawn significant attention on social media, sparking debates on marriage age, consent, and the treatment of public figures’ spouses in Nigeria.
