Passenger Plane Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Lagos After Technical Fault

A passenger aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members made a safe emergency landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, following a technical fault while in flight.

The incident occurred on Thursday, prompting the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders to be on high alert on the runway.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained during the operation. He also stated that the aircraft did not suffer any significant damage.

According to LASEMA, distress alerts received on the 767/112 toll-free lines triggered the activation of the state’s emergency response plan. The aircraft safely landed under the supervision of the pilot, with multi-agency responders—including the LASG Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)—coordinating evacuation and recovery efforts.

“The pilot executed a safe landing, and all passengers and crew were evacuated without incident. Following checks by the pilot and engineering team, the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and repairs,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The authorities emphasized that the collaborative response ensured both passenger safety and minimal disruption to airport operations.
