The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reinforced its stance on internal discipline and unity as newly appointed National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, formally received the affairs of the party from former National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum in Abuja.
The handover ceremony also included the issuance of expulsion certificates to members previously accused of anti-party activities, most notably Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose.
Addressing an enlarged meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other party officials, Turaki declared:
“The PDP will never die. This party is bigger than any individual or group. Those who have chosen to dine with our opponents while still wearing our colours have been shown the way out. This is the beginning of a disciplined, united, and purposeful opposition that will rescue Nigeria in 2027.”
In his farewell remarks, Ambassador Damagum expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged continued support for the reforms being implemented under the new leadership.
The expulsions, ratified on November 16, 2025, during the Party’s National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, were executed under Article 59(3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended 2017).
Other affected members include:
- Samuel Anyanwu, former National Secretary
- Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, former Legal Adviser
- Umar Bature, former National Organising Secretary
- Abdulrahman Mohammed, former National Vice Chairman, North Central
- George Turner
- Austine Nwachukwu, former Imo State Chairman
- Abraham Amah, former Abia State Chairman
“These expulsions are final and irrevocable,” the party stated.
Turaki outlined his agenda for the PDP, promising swift action to heal divisions, enforce discipline, rebuild party structures across the 36 states and the FCT, and present a united front against the ruling APC.
“The PDP is alive, strong, and marching to victory in 2027. No amount of money, blackmail, or intimidation will stop us,” he added.
