Police Arrest Six Suspects for Child Theft, Trafficking in Abia, Rescue Victims

The Abia State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the kidnapping and trafficking of three children, successfully rescuing the victims.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, identified the suspects as Onyinyechi Christopher, Ogechi Chidi, Chukwu Bernadette, Nnaji Patience, Abraham Ibiam, and Felix Ikechukwu.

The case began on October 30, 2025, when a father reported that his three children—two boys and a girl—went missing after school. Upon returning home, he discovered the children were nowhere to be found.

Police investigations revealed that Onyinyechi Christopher (25) and Ogechi Chidi (31) lured the children with biscuits and promises of soft drinks and handed them over to 67-year-old Bernadette Chukwu. The children were then taken to Ebonyi State and sold to Patience Nnaji (49), Felix Ikechukwu (54), and Abraham Ibiam (57).

The rescued children have since been reunited with their parents, while all six suspects have been charged to court.

CP Danladi Isa, Commissioner of Police for Abia State, urged residents and school authorities to ensure the security of children, advising that clear arrangements be made for who drops and picks up pupils from school.
