Police Recover Gold Buried by Boko Haram Attack Survivor in Borno

Borno State police have successfully recovered gold valued at N23.6 million that a woman buried 15 years ago in Mallamfatori, Abadam Local Government Area, while fleeing a Boko Haram attack.

The woman told authorities that she had hidden the gold in the sand during her escape and only recently returned to retrieve it. She approached the police for assistance in locating the buried items.

ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, said officers conducted a search based on the woman’s description. The operation led to the recovery of 22cc of gold worth about N20 million and a gold bracelet with a chain valued at N3.6 million.

The police highlighted the incident as a reminder of the displacement and losses suffered by residents during insurgency attacks, many of whom had to abandon their belongings to escape violence.

Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid praised the Mallamfatori Divisional Police Officer and his team for demonstrating honesty, professionalism, and integrity. He noted that their actions reinforce public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Abdulmajid also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to collaborate with the police to enhance security across the state.
