A wide spectrum of political leaders responded to the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, calling the incident tragic, alarming and deeply concerning. The blast, which occurred around 6:25 p.m., killed several people and injured many others. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light when the explosion occurred, damaging nearby vehicles and triggering emergency responses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He said he had reviewed the situation with home minister Amit Shah and senior officials.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi described the explosion as heartbreaking and profoundly sorrowful. He extended condolences to bereaved families and hoped for fast recovery of the injured.

Home minister Amit Shah outlined the immediate response, saying teams from the Delhi Crime Branch, Special Cell, NSG, NIA and FSL were deployed within minutes. He said investigators were examining all possibilities and reviewing CCTV footage, and he committed to sharing findings with the public.

Arvind Kejriwal called the explosion extremely alarming and urged authorities to determine whether negligence or a wider conspiracy was involved. He said lapses in the capital’s security could not be tolerated.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh described the incident as painful and disturbing, expressing condolences and wishing recovery for the injured. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said she was deeply shocked and extended her sympathies to the families affected.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor urged citizens to follow official advisories and emphasised the need for vigilance. Naveen Patnaik said he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives and prayed for the recovery of the injured. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra described the news as heartbreaking and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the incident was extremely distressing and called for a prompt, thorough investigation to determine accountability, noting that the blast occurred in a high-security and often crowded area.
