PRP Demands Suspension of Tax Laws, Warns Tinubu Could Face Impeachment

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called for the immediate suspension of Nigeria’s recently enacted tax laws and warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should face impeachment if found involved in alleged illegal alterations to legislation passed by the National Assembly.

In a statement signed by PRP National Chairman Falalu Bello on Monday, the party accused the executive branch of tampering with tax bills after they were approved by lawmakers, describing the alleged actions as a serious threat to Nigeria’s constitutional order.

“The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) condemns this blatant executive misconduct and flagrant disregard for constitutional sovereignty exhibited by the current administration in the manipulation of Nigeria’s tax laws,” the statement read.

The PRP referenced claims by a House of Representatives member that bills were altered without legislative consent, arguing that such conduct “represents a dangerous pattern of executive impunity that threatens the foundations of Nigeria’s democracy and due process.”

Highlighting the alleged seriousness, the party said, “This act of executive dishonesty, involving insertion, deletion, and modification of substantive provisions after passage, shows reckless disdain for the rule of law, separation of powers, and constitutional governance.”

Calling for accountability, the PRP urged authorities to launch a full investigation, warning that impeachment proceedings could follow if evidence links President Tinubu to the alleged manipulations.

“In light of these developments, we demand a transparent investigation to identify and punish all responsible. If evidence implicates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, impeachment must follow. No one, including the President, is above the law,” the statement said.

The party also demanded that the disputed tax laws be suspended until all discrepancies between the National Assembly-approved versions and the gazetted laws are fully resolved.

“The PRP emphasizes that the rule of law and constitutional integrity must take precedence. Suspension of the tax laws is necessary to prevent further harm to Nigeria’s democracy and economic stability,” the statement concluded, urging citizens and institutions to resist any violation of constitutional principles.
