Actor Ranvir Shorey has opened up about navigating dating, co-parenting, and fatherhood following his divorce from actor-filmmaker Konkona Sen Sharma. The former couple, who married in 2010 and separated a few years later, finalised their divorce in 2015. They continue to co-parent their 14-year-old son, Haroon.
In a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Shorey stressed the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries with former partners. Staying overly friendly with an ex, he said, can create confusion in current relationships.
“You should not be so in touch that it makes your present partner uncomfortable,” he noted, adding that courtesy is healthy, but involvement shouldn’t extend to a point where an ex feels like part of the family again.
On using dating apps
Shorey also spoke about his experience with dating apps, admitting that he uses them and approaches modern dating with practical expectations.
“Requirements in a match vary from person to person. For me, as a divorced single father, they would be different from what a 30-year-old would have,” he explained. His decisions, he added, are made with his son’s well-being at the centre.
On raising his son after divorce
Reflecting on the period leading up to his separation, Shorey said he and Konkona had been facing challenges even before Haroon turned four. He deliberately waited to initiate separation until what he believed was the right time for his child.
“I sought separation at the right age for him. But I waited till he was 4 years old,” he said. Shorey felt delaying it further could have had a stronger emotional impact on his son.
According to him, the transition was smoother because Haroon was still young enough to adapt. He described that age as “malleable,” saying it helped prevent the shift in family dynamics from becoming overwhelming.
Work front
Shorey is set to reprise his character Chote Dawaan in Season 2 of Bindiya Ke Bahubali. The comedy-drama returned this year on Amazon MX Player.
