Sanwo-Olu Vows to Name, Shame Hotels and Vendors Who Cancel Bookings During Detty December

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has warned hotels, restaurants, and event venues against canceling confirmed bookings or hiking prices during the upcoming Detty December festive season.

Speaking on TVC Journalists Hangout, the governor said such practices are “unacceptable” and undermine Lagos’ image as a top cultural and tourism destination. He emphasized that venues must honor prior commitments, even if higher-paying clients appear.

“Last week, I met with around 250 operators at the Marina to discuss stopping unjustified price hikes. If someone booked three to four months in advance, it is unacceptable to cancel because someone else offers more. That damages both your brand and Lagos’ reputation,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The governor warned that the government would not tolerate such behavior, pledging to “name and shame” offenders. He urged customers to report any breaches, promising that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Lagos State Safety Commission are prepared to act.

“People should speak up and let us know if there’s evidence of a confirmed booking being disregarded. We will correct it and ensure the full arm of the law addresses the offenders. Lagos’ reputation cannot be compromised,” he added.
