Scotland and British & Irish Lions centre Huw Jones is set to leave Glasgow Warriors at the end of the current season to join French Top 14 side Toulon, signing a two-year contract with the club.
The 32-year-old will link up with fellow Scotland international Ben White, who renewed his Toulon deal for two years in November 2025. Jones’ move represents a major signing for Toulon as they look to strengthen their squad for domestic and European competitions.
Toulon Welcome Huw Jones
Speaking to the club’s website, Toulon sporting director Laurent Emmanuelli hailed Jones as a player of international calibre:
“The arrival of Huw Jones is the result of several months of groundwork. He is an international-class player, a key member of his national team who has long played at the highest European and world levels. His rugby skills, high standards, and experience will be invaluable assets to the team. He fits perfectly into our sporting project, which combines immediate performance with the development of our young players.”
Toulon currently lie second in the Top 14, just behind Toulouse on points difference, meaning Jones will join a competitive squad with ambitions in both domestic and European tournaments.
Career Journey of Huw Jones
Leith-born Jones, capped 58 times for Scotland, began his rugby career with the University of Cape Town before moving to Western Province and the Stormers. He first joined Glasgow Warriors in 2017 and returned for a second spell from Harlequins in 2022.
During his time with Glasgow:

- Returned from injury in try-scoring fashion in a 33-21 Champions Cup victory over Clermont-Auvergne
Jones was also selected for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, featuring in all three Tests and scoring a try in the decisive second-Test win. His performances earned him a spot in the World Rugby Dream Team of the Year 2025.
Playing Style and Impact
Toulon praised Jones as “a complete player”, noting his blend of physicality, speed, and rugby intelligence. Key attributes include:
- Power and line-breaking ability
- Game sense and defensive awareness
- High-level experience in European and international rugby
- Ability to mentor younger players within the squad
His signing is expected to provide Toulon with both immediate impact on the field and leadership off it, fitting into a team that balances seasoned internationals with emerging talent.
Looking Ahead: Toulon and Top 14 Challenge
Jones moves from a Glasgow Warriors side currently second in the United Rugby Championship to a Toulon team positioned for a strong title challenge in France. His experience in high-pressure matches, such as the URC Grand Final and Lions Tests, will be pivotal as Toulon aim for Top 14 success and deep runs in European competitions.
This transfer highlights the continuing trend of Scottish internationals moving to the Top 14, where competitive contracts and exposure to French rugby provide both financial and professional incentives.
