Netflix’s hit series Nobody Wants This returned with an energetic second season, featuring a standout guest appearance by comedian Seth Rogen. Adam Brody, who stars as Noah, revealed in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE that Rogen’s portrayal of Rabbi Neil brought an unexpected level of improvisation and comedic flair to the set.
Seth Rogen Goes Off Script
Rogen, 43, plays a progressive, ultra-modern rabbi whose path crosses with Noah in a pivotal episode. Brody described Rogen’s performance as “letting it rip” and noted that both he and fellow guest star Kate Berlant “went way off-script,” creating a dynamic scene in which Noah serves as the more buttoned-up, straight-laced counterpart.
“He just let it rip,” Brody said. “He and Kate Berlant, who I’m also a huge fan of, just went way off-script, and I just got to buckle up and hang on. That was a dynamic.”
Berlant plays Cami, the counterpart to Rogen’s Rabbi Neil, and their chemistry brought an extra layer of energy to the episode. “Fortunately, that was the dynamic on the page too,” Brody added.
Why Rogen Was Perfect for Rabbi Neil
Brody praised Rogen as “so very funny and talented,” emphasizing that his gregarious personality and identifiable Jewish background made him ideal for the role of Rabbi Neil. Brody described the character as a “rock and roll rabbi” to Noah’s more traditional persona.
“He’s incredibly gregarious, and he’s identifiably Jewish, which is important,” Brody said. “Listen, he’d be great to have in any way, shape or form. I think he’s just a great fit.”
Star-Studded Guest Appearances
Season 2 also saw Brody reunited on screen with his wife, Leighton Meester, who plays an influencer and former friend of Joanne (Kristen Bell). Brody shared that working alongside Meester gave them a “date night” experience of sorts during the shoot, as they commuted together and shared moments of alone time.
Meester also praised the cast and crew, calling her time on set “one of the most fun times that I’ve had on a set” and highlighting the collaborative, positive energy of the production.
