Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has responded to fans of Wizkid over the controversy surrounding the “Big Bird” nickname, insisting that the name has always been his. Seun told fans during an Instagram Live session that Wizkid should find his own original moniker.
“If I see DJ Tunez again, I’ll confront him because he and his team are enjoying the Wizkid and Fela comparison instead of debunking it. I won’t even hug him,” Seun said, emphasizing his frustration at fans dragging his late father, Fela Kuti, into online debates.
In the conversation, Seun also revealed that he recently received $120,000 simply because he is Fela’s son, highlighting that his father’s legacy continues to benefit him decades after his passing.
“How many of your fathers from the grave can send you $120,000? You think you can just open your mouth… No father has accomplished what mine did,” he added, stressing that his critique is directed at fans, not Wizkid himself.
Seun urged Wizkid fans to channel their energy into positive contributions, like building schools, instead of disrespecting history online. He also rejected comparisons labeling Wizkid as the “new Fela,” affirming that Fela’s legacy is incomparable.
