Seyi Sodimu: Davido Could Win Governorship, Burna Boy Can’t

Veteran Nigerian musician Seyi Sodimu has weighed in on the influence of the Afrobeats “Big 3” — Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy — highlighting the differences in how each artist impacts society.

Speaking on the What I Know podcast hosted by Korty EO with Shaffy Bello, Sodimu said that while all three artists are hugely successful, their spheres of influence differ. He noted that Wizkid’s influence is unique, Burna Boy’s is mainly musical, and Davido’s influence extends beyond music.

Sodimu asserted that Davido’s popularity is so strong that he could win a governorship election, whereas Burna Boy’s influence, limited to music, would not translate into political victory.

“The Big 3 each pursue music for different reasons. Burna Boy has conquered the stage and is excellent. Wizkid is special. But Davido surpasses music. If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. I don’t think Burna Boy could,” Sodimu said.

This is not the first time public figures have tipped Davido for political success. Last year, former Senator Ben Maurice Bruce suggested that Davido could become governor of Osun State, where Davido’s uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, currently holds office.
