
Sheikh Bashir Soliu, the revered Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State, has passed away at the age of 75, SaharaReporters reports. His death on Monday has plunged the Ilorin Emirate and the broader Muslim community into mourning.
Born in Ilorin, Sheikh Soliu dedicated decades to Islamic scholarship, teaching, and spiritual leadership. He was appointed the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin in 1983 by the former Emir, Zuluqarnain Muhammadu Gambari, succeeding Imam Musa Ahmad.
Known affectionately as Imam Fulani, Sheikh Soliu was highly respected for his deep knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence, his strong leadership in religious matters, and his commitment to promoting peace, unity, and tolerance within the Muslim community and beyond.
His father, Imam Saliu Omo Onida Abdulkadir, previously served as the 7th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, marking a family legacy of spiritual leadership.
During his more than 40-year tenure as Chief Imam, Sheikh Soliu became a guiding figure for generations, leaving a lasting impact on both religious scholarship and the broader society in Kwara State.
