Shannen Doherty’s estate has filed a new motion accusing her ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, of failing to fulfill several obligations outlined in their divorce settlement, finalized just days before Doherty’s death in July 2024.
Background of the Divorce Settlement
Doherty, who passed away after a years-long battle with cancer, signed the divorce settlement on July 12, 2024, just one day before her death. Iswarienko signed on July 13, the day she died. The settlement included provisions requiring him to:
- Sell Doherty’s $1.5 million Texas home in Dripping Springs and split the proceeds equally with her estate
- Return her personal property
- Provide copies of all photographs of Doherty in his possession
- Buy out Doherty’s share of a Mooney M-20 airplane for $100,000 and pay her estate within five business days
According to filings obtained by PEOPLE, Iswarienko has allegedly failed to comply with multiple aspects of the agreement.
Alleged Breaches of the Settlement
The estate’s filing states that Iswarienko:
- Refused to list the Texas home for sale, which also appears to be his current residence
- Has not returned Doherty’s personal belongings
- Failed to produce an inventory of photographs, a requirement that was 14 months overdue as of the filing
- Withheld $50,274 from the airplane buyout, making the payment delinquent for over 15 months
Doherty’s attorneys, along with Christopher Cortazzo, trustee of the Shannen Doherty Family Trust, are seeking enforcement of these provisions to protect the late actress’s estate.
Context: Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko
Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko were married for 11 years before Doherty filed for divorce in 2023. At the time, Doherty’s representative noted, “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”
Doherty also revealed that she discovered Iswarienko had been unfaithful for two years shortly before undergoing brain surgery for a tumor. On her podcast in 2023, she described feeling “incredibly unloved” by someone she had shared 14 years of her life with.
Legal Next Steps
The estate’s motion highlights the ongoing challenges faced by celebrities’ families in enforcing posthumous financial and property agreements. Legal experts note that settlements signed shortly before a spouse’s death can create complex enforcement issues, particularly when property and assets are involved.
The filings underscore the estate’s commitment to ensuring that Shannen Doherty’s final wishes and financial interests are upheld.
