Shehu Sani, the former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has issued a cautionary message to Nigerians living in the United States, advising them to “lie low and continue to pray” in the face of potential deportation threats under former President Donald Trump.
Sani shared this advice in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, in response to Trump’s claims that 33% of Nigerian immigrants in the US are dependent on government assistance.
Sani’s message conveyed concern about the precarious situation for Nigerians in the US, stating: “Those in this category should lie low and continue to pray. Everything now depends on his moods. For him to have these figures at hand, you know what that implies.”
In response to Sani’s post, one X user, @DannymasterP, encouraged a shift in perspective for Nigerians and Africans, saying, “Nigerians and Africa should wake up to the reality that no place is better than home. We must learn to apply dedication and patience to build something productive in Nigeria and contribute to our nation’s development. Only then will we stop facing disrespect outside Africa.”
