Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has reiterated the determination of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to equip the Nigerian Armed Forces with the necessary resources to address the country’s ongoing security challenges.
During a special Juma’at Prayer marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, Senator Shettima honored the sacrifices of fallen soldiers who laid down their lives to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, as well as the safety and property of its citizens.
The Federal Government annually observes January 15 to recognize the contributions of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). In a recent change, the day’s designation was updated from “Armed Forces Remembrance Day” to “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day,” reflecting its dual purpose: celebrating active personnel and commemorating those who have died in service.
In his address, Vice President Shettima praised the dedication of the armed forces and other security agencies and expressed confidence that, under President Tinubu’s visionary leadership, the nation will achieve lasting peace and prosperity.
“Our prayer is for Allah to forgive our departed officers and soldiers, and may He grant their families the strength to bear these profound losses. We also pray for divine protection and empowerment for our armed forces as they confront the challenges facing our nation. In sha Allah, Nigeria will experience enduring peace and prosperity,” VP Shettima said.
