Sigourney Weaver Teases Her Role in The Mandalorian & Grogu: “Surrounded by All Kinds of Different Creatures”

Sigourney Weaver is giving fans an early look at her role in the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.

The Alien and Avatar star, 76, will appear as Colonel Ward, a leader of the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers and former Rebel Alliance pilot. Weaver shared her excitement while speaking at New York Comic-Con 2025 during the Alien and Beyond panel.

Falling in Love with the Star Wars Universe

Weaver revealed that Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, personally reached out to her about the role. A longtime admirer of the 58-year-old director, Weaver quickly watched the Disney+ series and was captivated by its storytelling.

“I was, of course, amazed by it and fell in love with it, and Pedro [Pascal] and Grogu,” Weaver said.

She also praised how the Star Wars universe focuses on individual stories set in the same galaxy, rather than trying to reference every past film.

A Quick but Memorable Shoot

Though her time on set was brief, Weaver enjoyed interacting with the franchise’s iconic characters and unique creatures.

“I was only on the set for a few days, but I was surrounded by all kinds of different creatures. I got a drink from someone with a very different kind of head,” she recalled.

Weaver called herself the “luckiest girl in the world” for spending time with Pedro Pascal and Grogu on set.

About The Mandalorian & Grogu

The film takes place in the outer ring of the Star Wars galaxy after the events of The Mandalorian Season 3. With the evil Empire defeated but Imperial warlords still scattered, the fledgling New Republic enlists Din Djarin (Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu to maintain peace.

The cast also includes Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne, with Favreau directing and co-writing alongside Dave Filoni.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Release Date
