‘Single Mother Stigma Only Affects Poor Women’ – Mercy Eke

Nigerian reality TV star and Big Brother Naija Season 4 winner, Mercy Eke, has revealed that she would be open to having children outside of marriage.

In a recent podcast interview, Eke stated that while she is not actively planning to get pregnant out of wedlock, she would welcome the child if it happened.

“I won’t go out of my way to get pregnant before marriage, but if it just happens, I would have my baby. I want three kids: either two girls and a boy, or three girls. I love having daughters,” she shared.

The reality star also expressed confidence that being a single mother would not harm her reputation. She suggested that societal stigma mainly affects women who are struggling financially.

“What people don’t understand is that the stigma of being a single mother only applies to women who aren’t doing well for themselves. Successful women who are single mothers are still highly sought after. Men are still eager to marry them. I could get married tomorrow if I wanted to, but I haven’t met a man who meets my standards. There’s no shortage of suitors, but I’m waiting for the right one. Even if I have a child, I would still pursue a relationship,” she explained.
