Skales Responds to Criticism Over Testimony at Harvesters Church

Afrobeats artist Skales has addressed criticism following his testimony at Harvesters Church, where he credited Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, for helping reignite his music career. Skales had shared how his 2015 hit “Shake Body” found new attention thanks to Yamal, which he believes played a pivotal role in reviving his career.

On X (formerly Twitter), Skales acknowledged that his initial response to the backlash might have been too hasty. “I may have responded too quickly to the concerns raised about my crossover testimony at Harvesters Church,” he wrote. “After sitting with it, I felt it was important to respond again—this time with more clarity and less emotion, for the sake of the Body of Christ.”

In his statement, Skales emphasized the idea that every believer has a purpose, whether within the church or in other spheres of life. He stressed that one’s calling is significant, regardless of whether it’s directly tied to the pulpit.

Defending his testimony, the artist reiterated that professionals from all fields—musicians, filmmakers, athletes, teachers—serve God through their work. He cited 1 Corinthians 12:28, explaining that sharing how God has impacted his life is a valid and meaningful expression of faith.

Skales further affirmed his commitment to publicly sharing his faith, asserting, “As children of the Lord, we all have our part to play. I truly believe that those who believe in the Word but are not in the pulpit do not have a lesser calling, just a different assignment.” He stressed that one’s work, regardless of its setting, can serve others and be a reflection of God’s work.

Skales concluded, saying he has no reservations about testifying about God’s impact on his life, reinforcing his belief that his music and his testimony are both parts of his calling. “I will never believe that testifying about what my God has done for me is wrong!” he stated.
