The Anambra State government, led by Governor Charles Soludo, has awarded ₦229 million in contracts for the construction of gates at the General Hospitals in Okpoko and Fegge, according to details on the Anambra State Open Contracting Portal.
The projects, labeled “Solution is Here Model Gate for General Hospitals Okpoko and Fegge,” allocate roughly ₦114.5 million per gate. The contracts were awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Limited, though checks on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) portal did not reveal further information about the company.
This development comes amid concerns over financial accountability in the state, highlighted in the 2024 Anambra State Audit Report. The audit uncovered over ₦725 million in unresolved financial queries, including unretired funds, missing government vehicles, and possible misappropriation of resources across multiple ministries and parastatals.
Key findings included:
- ₦263 million released to the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) was not retired. The funds were intended as consultancy fees for a Mixed Use Industrial City Master Plan and a Special Economic Zone licence provided by Artelia Consulting Engineers Limited.
- Auditors found no evidence of the master plan or licence for which the money was released.
- Three government vehicles—a Peugeot Panther (AN 339-E01) and two Ford Rangers (AN 40-A03 and AN 30-A03)—were unaccounted for.
The audit emphasized that the failure to account for released funds violates principles of financial accountability and fiscal responsibility, directing responsible officers to either retire or refund the amounts.
