Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington has stirred controversy after sharing his views on wealth and relationships during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast.
Darlington advised men not to allow their partners to earn more than them, claiming that women who are wealthier cannot be truly submissive. Despite never having been married, he argued that rich women may appear submissive to secure marriage, but in reality, they resist yielding to their spouses.
He stated:
“You cannot tell me that a woman worth multimillions will be submissive to her husband. Power does not like to submit. I am not very rich but I am proud of the little I have. Imagine a wealthy woman with houses in Lagos and in the village; she definitely can’t be submissive. She might say she is just to get married, but deep down, she will never be submissive.”
Darlington urged men to ensure they are financially ahead of their partners to avoid potential conflicts in relationships. He added that a woman who earns more could become aggressive and less supportive.
He also expressed his personal preference for women who are submissive and supportive, rather than rich and independent, suggesting that independent women may compete with their partners rather than complement them.
