The wait is almost over for fans of Netflix’s Stranger Things. On October 30, just a day before Halloween, Netflix dropped the official trailer for the fifth and final season of the hit supernatural series, giving viewers a first look at the kids of Hawkins as they face their deadliest challenge yet: Vecna.
Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 1 is set to premiere on November 26 at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix, with Volume 2 arriving December 25, and the season finale streaming December 31.
What the Trailer Reveals
The trailer opens with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) expressing frustration over being “stuck” with “no end in sight,” setting the tone for the season. Mike and the rest of the gang venture into Hawkins’ underground tunnels in a desperate hunt for Vecna, hoping to stop him once and for all.
Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is shown in full action, sprinting and leaping over fences, emphasizing her readiness for the coming battle. She tells Mike, “You don’t get to write the ending,” signaling her determination to control the fate of Hawkins and her friends.
Vecna finally appears in the trailer, terrorizing the children of Hawkins, including a chilling moment where Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is lifted into the air by the villain. Vecna ominously warns Will: “William, you are going to help me, one last time.”
The Stakes Are Higher Than Ever
According to the official synopsis, the season begins in the fall of 1987 with Vecna’s whereabouts unknown. Hawkins is under military quarantine, complicating the gang’s mission while forcing Eleven into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, a familiar dread returns, and the final showdown promises a darkness stronger than anything the heroes have previously faced.
Ross Duffer, co-creator of Stranger Things, told Tudum that Season 5 kicks off “a little bit in chaos” due to the unresolved cliffhangers of Season 4. “Because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4, this season is sprinting from the start,” he said.
