The ongoing legal dispute over the estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, actor Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, has taken another turn, with his sister, Mandhira Kapur, speaking out about the contentious will and clarifying questions surrounding his children. Mandhira appeared on the InControversial Podcast, where she addressed what she described as an attempt to misrepresent Sunjay’s lineage and disinherit his biological children.
Mandhira Kapur emphasized that while Sunjay cared for Safira, the daughter of his third wife, Priya Sachdev, Safira is not Sunjay’s biological child. “Safira has been called the daughter, but she’s not. Samaira is his daughter, not Safira. Safira is the stepdaughter. Her biological father is alive,” Mandhira stated. She underscored that any attempts to rewrite the family’s lineage by presenting Safira as Sunjay’s daughter are misleading and unjust.
The sister’s remarks come amid allegations that Priya Sachdev, along with her children Safira and Azarius, is attempting to claim Sunjay Kapur’s estate while excluding his biological children with Karisma Kapoor: Samaira and Kiaan. According to Mandhira, the will produced by Priya before the Delhi High Court is “suspicious” and contains multiple errors that could indicate manipulation.
Mandhira elaborated on these discrepancies, noting that the document lists only Priya, Azarius, and Safira, while completely omitting Sunjay’s children with Karisma. She criticized what she called “bloopers” in the will, including incorrect spellings of names and wrong addresses for his children. “My brother was a particular human being. You cannot misspell his son’s name. You cannot get his daughter’s address wrong. These are not mistakes; these are giveaways,” she said.
Mandhira also voiced her frustration with what she perceives as an attempt to erase her brother’s biological children from his legacy. “Nobody is denying that my brother cared for Safira. But don’t take over when Samaira is there. Don’t name Safira ‘the daughter.’ She is the stepdaughter. Stop rewriting lineage. You’re depriving the whole family. You have stolen from our family. You have stolen. This is ours. It doesn’t belong to you that you’re claiming it,” she said, adding sharply, “Just because you’ve been married for seven years, you cannot erase normal habits that we have grown up with.”
The legal battle has intensified following a plea filed by Samaira and Kiaan in the Delhi High Court. The children alleged that the will produced by Priya is forged and fabricated, designed to exclude them from their late father’s estate. During the hearing on November 17, Joint Registrar (Judicial) Gagandeep Jindal issued notices to Priya Kapur and Shradha Suri Marwah, the executor of the contested will, and directed them to file their replies within three weeks. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on December 16, 2025.
Mandhira criticized the alleged attempt to manipulate the will, emphasizing that a document with multiple errors cannot be considered credible. “Spelling mistakes, the wrong use of pronouns… just because you’ve been with someone for seven years, you cannot erase normal habits that we have grown up with. Nobody changes so drastically to be another person within seven years,” she said.
The sister’s statements highlight the emotional and legal complexity of the ongoing battle, as the Kapoor family navigates disputes over inheritance, legitimacy, and the interpretation of Sunjay Kapur’s wishes. Mandhira’s insistence on clarifying that Samaira is Sunjay’s biological daughter underscores the stakes for the family, as well as the broader questions of fairness and legacy that have emerged in court.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Delhi High Court will have to weigh the claims of Samaira and Kiaan against the will presented by Priya and her children, while determining the authenticity and validity of the document. With the next hearing set for mid-December, the case remains a high-profile and closely watched family and legal dispute.
