SZA Teams Up with Jon & Vinny’s to Provide 1,400 Free Meals for Los Angeles SNAP Recipients Amid Government Shutdown

SZA, the multi-award-winning R&B sensation, is using her influence and platform to make a meaningful difference for families impacted by the recent government shutdown. The singer, who has earned accolades including R&B Song of the Year, R&B Album of the Year, and R&B Artist of the Year, announced that her non-profit organization, NOT Charity, has partnered with popular Los Angeles Italian eatery Jon & Vinny’s to distribute 1,400 free meals to local SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients.

This initiative highlights SZA’s dedication to supporting communities in need, particularly during times of financial uncertainty. The partnership, which runs from Tuesday, November 11, through Monday, November 17, 2025, ensures that those who rely on SNAP benefits can still enjoy nutritious meals during a challenging period.

How SZA is Making an Impact

On November 10, SZA shared the news on Instagram, emphasizing her love for the restaurant while also highlighting the importance of giving back. “Y’all know how much I love Jon & Vinny’s!! But it ain’t no fun if the Homies can’t have none!!” she wrote in the post, signaling her commitment to helping families in need.

Jon & Vinny’s, a modern diner known for all-day Italian-inspired fare, operates multiple locations across Los Angeles, including Studio City and Slauson Avenue. The restaurant confirmed the collaboration on social media, noting, “Last week @SZA reached out to us with an idea and now, with her help, it’s a reality.”

Through this partnership, the restaurant and the Grammy-winning artist will provide 100 dinners for two per day over seven days, totaling 1,400 free meals specifically for SNAP recipients in Los Angeles.

Meal Distribution Details

Recipients can pick up their meals at Jon & Vinny’s Slauson Avenue location between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily during the week-long initiative. To ensure fair access, there is a limit of four meals per family. Interested participants can register or inquire about the program by emailing [email protected].

The initiative has been praised for its community-focused approach. Jon & Vinny’s concluded their announcement with gratitude toward SZA: “Please spread the word to those in need. Thank you SZA for inspiring all of us to be there for our neighbors.”

Context: The Government Shutdown and SNAP Benefits

The program comes amid a historic government shutdown, which lasted 41 days, marking the longest in U.S. history. The shutdown, which began on October 1, 2025, resulted from congressional disagreements over funding and key legislative issues, including discussions surrounding the Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare).

During the shutdown, many SNAP recipients faced interruptions in food assistance. Courts, including rulings by U.S. District Judges John McConnell and Indira Talwani, demanded that payments be delivered in full. However, the Trump administration requested an emergency pause, citing a “crisis” caused by congressional inaction.

SZA’s initiative with Jon & Vinny’s directly addresses the immediate need for food security among Los Angeles families, offering tangible relief during a period of uncertainty.

SZA’s Philanthropic Legacy

This is not the first time SZA has leveraged her fame to support her community. Her non-profit, NOT Charity, is committed to providing essential resources and support to those in need. Collaborations like this highlight the role of artists in promoting social good, showing how celebrity influence can create meaningful change at the grassroots level.

For Los Angeles residents relying on SNAP, this effort offers a week of nutritious meals and a reminder that the community is standing in solidarity during challenging times.
