“That’s Why I Respect Wizkid” — Lady Criticises Davido Over Carter Efe Livestream

A Nigerian woman has sparked debate online after criticising Afrobeats star Davido for appearing on comedian Carter Efe’s recent Twitch livestream, while praising Wizkid for what she described as his reserved public image.

The video, which has been circulating on social media, features the woman expressing admiration for Wizkid’s approach to fame, saying the Grammy-winning singer maintains a level of distance and exclusivity befitting a global music star.

According to her, not every platform or personality deserves the attention of an A-list celebrity.

She argued that Davido often tries too hard to be universally liked, citing his frequent public appearances and collaborations as unnecessary. While acknowledging that Davido is approachable and generally well-liked, she maintained that celebrities should draw boundaries to protect their brand and stature.

“You need to give yourself that respect sometimes,” she said, adding that a star should not feel compelled to be everywhere.

The woman further questioned Carter Efe’s cultural relevance, suggesting that the comedian’s style of comedy and online behaviour does not reflect the image she believes Nigerian culture should project.

Although she clarified that she harbours no personal dislike for Davido, she insisted that maintaining exclusivity and selective engagement is why she respects Wizkid’s public persona.

The remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with fans divided over whether Davido’s openness strengthens his brand or diminishes his celebrity status.
