Chalamet on His Performance in ‘Marty Supreme’
In a now-deleted video posted on Margaret Gardiner’s YouTube page, Chalamet joked about needing confidence after Gardiner praised him in comparison to George Clooney, calling him “a great actor.” He said:
“This is probably my best performance, and it’s been like seven, eight years that I feel like I’ve been handing in really, really committed, top-of-the-line performances.”
Chalamet added:
“It’s important to say it out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things, I don’t want people to take for granted. I don’t want to take for granted. This is really some top-level stuff.”
About ‘Marty Supreme’
Marty Supreme, set to release in theaters on December 25, 2025, follows Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a Jewish-American table tennis pioneer chasing success. The film is directed by Josh Safdie and co-written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.
Chalamet not only stars but also serves as a producer, leading a cast that includes:
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Odessa A’zion
- Kevin O’Leary
- Tyler, the Creator (Tyler Okonma)
- Abel Ferrara
- Fran Drescher
Fans and critics alike are anticipating Chalamet’s performance, considering his track record of intense, transformative roles.
Chalamet’s Ambition and Past Recognition
Chalamet has been open about his drive to join the ranks of cinematic greats, citing inspiration from actors like Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis, as well as athletes such as Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps.
Earlier in 2025, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Chalamet won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his role in A Complete Unknown, reflecting his sustained commitment to high-caliber performances.
In interviews, he has also discussed not winning the Academy Award for the same role, explaining his philosophy:
“People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever. If there’s five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing, you don’t think those four people are at the restaurant like, ‘Damn, we didn’t win?’”
Release and Anticipation
With Marty Supreme hitting theaters on December 25, Chalamet’s fans and film enthusiasts are eager to see how his portrayal of Marty Mauser measures up to his previous iconic roles. His declaration of delivering his best performance yet sets high expectations for both audiences and critics.
