Tinubu Mourns Ex-UN Envoy Arthur Mbanefo’s Passing

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deep condolences over the passing of Chief Arthur Christopher Mbanefo, who died at the age of 95. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the late Mbanefo as an accounting icon, a seasoned administrator, and an elder statesman whose life was marked by integrity, hard work, and patriotism.

A Legacy of Service:

  • Arthur Mbanefo served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and held notable roles in academia, including as Pro-Chancellor of several top Nigerian universities like University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, and Ahmadu Bello University.
  • He was also a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

Contributions to National Development:

President Tinubu highlighted Mbanefo’s significant contributions in both public service and the private sector. His dedication and ethical standards helped revolutionize Nigeria’s accounting, taxation, and audit systems, leaving an indelible mark on the country’s development.
