Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have called for the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu to be halted.
The lawmakers, Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made the appeal just days after colleagues Sylvanus Eyinna Nwankwo and Peter Abbey publicly advocated for restraint and dialogue.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Minority Leader Nwankwo, representing Omuma State Constituency, emphasized that leaders within and outside Rivers State have appealed for leniency and encouraged colleagues to reconsider impeachment in favor of peaceful solutions.
Abbey, representing Degema State Constituency, acknowledged that while the governor may have breached constitutional provisions, it is important to allow room for correction and reconciliation. He urged that measures be taken to prevent future violations rather than pursue immediate punitive action.
The move signals growing calls within the Assembly for dialogue and reconciliation amid escalating tensions between the legislative and executive branches of Rivers State government.
