British authorities have filed two new charges against comedian Russell Brand, who is already facing multiple allegations of sexual assault and rape. The new counts bring further scrutiny to the 50-year-old entertainer, whose legal troubles have continued to make headlines in the United Kingdom.
New Charges Filed Against Russell Brand
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on December 23, 2025, that Brand now faces one count of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to alleged incidents involving two additional women in 2009. These charges are separate from the four earlier allegations made against him, which occurred between 1999 and 2005.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi emphasized that the women involved are receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers, and authorities are encouraging anyone with further information to come forward.
Previous Charges
Brand was first charged in April 2025 with:
- Two counts of rape
- Two counts of sexual assault
- One count of indecent assault
These allegations stemmed from an 18-month investigation after four women accused him of sexual offences, including incidents in London and the seaside town of Bournemouth. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Court Appearances and Trial Dates
Russell Brand is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20, 2026, to respond to the two new charges. His full trial is scheduled to begin on June 16, 2026, and is expected to last four to five weeks.
Brand’s Public Persona and Statements
Known for his work in films like Get Him to the Greek and provocative stand-up comedy, Brand has also gained attention online for discussing wellness, religion, and conspiracy theories.
Following the initial charges in April, Brand released a statement on social media asserting his innocence. He said:
“I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile. But what I never was, was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in nonconsensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
Ongoing Investigation
UK authorities continue to investigate the allegations thoroughly. Detective Chief Inspector Farooqi confirmed that the police are actively pursuing leads and encouraging victims or witnesses to provide information to assist the ongoing investigation.
