Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has defended his performance with the Nigerian national team, insisting that he is not a “bad player” despite recent struggles with the Super Eagles.
In an interview with sports journalist Oma Akatugba, Boniface acknowledged that he has faced challenges while playing for Nigeria but emphasized his ongoing commitment to representing his country.
“I have been unlucky with the national team in terms of scoring goals, even though there were a couple of games I was not good,” Boniface said.
The forward also reflected on his career aspirations, noting that representing Nigeria has been a lifelong dream that he has been able to fulfill.
“My biggest dream as a football player was to represent my country and I achieved this, and I am grateful for this. Because it has not worked out well for me with the national team does not mean I am a bad player,” he added.
Boniface’s comments come amid Nigeria’s ongoing preparations for the World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon, where the Super Eagles aim to secure a spot in the next stage of African qualifying.
