Factional Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammed, on Friday accused former BoT leaders Adolphus Wabara and Umar Damagum of rendering the party’s Board of Trustees ineffective and undermining its moral authority.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new BoT in Abuja, Mohammed said Wabara and Damagum had weakened the party by protecting PDP chieftains who violated party rules, creating a vacuum of moral guidance.
“As a result of this, the Board that was meant to be the moral compass of our party became divided and ineffective,” Mohammed said.
He added that Damagum, then suspended as National Chairman, prioritized personal loyalty and convenience over the constitution and rule of law, often shielding individuals who had violated party rules instead of enforcing judicial pronouncements.
“This dangerous trend weakened our moral standing and pushed our great party to a point of deep internal disillusionment. When any political party begins to disregard its own constitution and laws, it loses the very soul that holds it together,” he stated.
Mohammed emphasized that the decision by three concerned PDP members to seek judicial redress was driven not by ambition or anger, but by love for the party and concern for its survival.
He described the newly inaugurated BoT as “not just a statutory organ – it is a symbol of rebirth,” representing a return to the PDP’s moral center.
“The Board will once again serve as the conscience and compass of this great party – offering guidance with courage, wisdom, and impartiality. To the new members of the BoT, this is not a reward for loyalty; it is a sacred trust,” Mohammed said.
He urged the new BoT members to speak truth to power, defend justice, and ensure that the PDP remains a home for all Nigerians, emphasizing that their voices must inspire unity, fairness, and confidence in the party’s collective future.
