Why I Stopped Going to Church – Actress Ariyiike Dimples

Nigerian actress and media personality Ariyike Owolagba, popularly known as Ariyiike Dimples, has opened up about why she stopped attending church for three years.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Open Up podcast, the actress revealed that her decision came after a church elder criticized her fashion sense.

She explained that the elder told her she would go to hell for wearing a pencil skirt to church, which the elder deemed inappropriate. Frustrated by the judgment, she stopped attending services.

“In my community church, you mostly see elderly people. Young people have gone to other churches. Yes, you can have your doctrines, but there’s a way to guide young people without judging them,” she said.

Ariyiike Dimples recounted:

“The reason I stopped going to church was because I wore a pencil skirt and an elderly woman said I would go to hell. I was shocked and felt wrongly judged, so I stopped going for three years. Thankfully, I was already out of my parents’ house. The woman even reported me to my dad, so I had to take a picture of the skirt and send it to my mum to prove I wasn’t dressing indecently. My dad believed in the idea of a community raising a child, so I chose to avoid the community church.”

Despite stepping away from church, Ariyiike Dimples emphasized that she remains a practicing Christian.
