Why KASU Has Become the University of Choice – VC

Kaduna State University (KASU) has emerged as a leading centre of academic excellence, research innovation, and infrastructural development, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa.

Professor Musa highlighted that KASU has expanded opportunities for Kaduna State’s youth to achieve academic success, noting the university’s unprecedented achievements. “KASU is the only state university in Nigeria to secure a ₦1 billion competitive grant for commercial agriculture from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund),” he said.

He also proudly disclosed that three KASU scholars have been ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists, a historic feat for both Kaduna State and Nigeria. The distinguished scholars are:

  • Prof. Ibrahim Inuwa – Department of Chemistry
  • Dr. Daniel Yahaya Shagaiya – Department of Mathematics
  • Dr. Abdullahi Yusuf Zuntu – Department of Physics

“These achievements were made possible through the support of Governor Uba Sani. Over the last two years, KASU has undergone remarkable transformation, driven by strategic reforms, targeted investments, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” Professor Musa added.

He explained that KASU’s progress reflects the administration’s vision for human capital development, knowledge-driven growth, and inclusive prosperity in Kaduna State.

Among the university’s recent milestones are the establishment of two new academic colleges:

  • College of Science, Computing & Engineering
  • College of Allied Health & Pharmaceutical Sciences

KASU has also forged global research partnerships, including with Lomonosov Moscow State University for digital and academic exchanges, and Universitas Indonesia for stem cell research. In addition, collaborations with Ascending Consultants / Ledger Lab are advancing Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain innovation.

The university has introduced high-demand programmes such as Cybersecurity, Data Science, Biotechnology, and Information Systems. According to Professor Musa, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has verified resources for 40 new programmes, accredited over 50, with 47 achieving full accreditation.

“These reforms consolidate KASU’s reputation as a future-ready university, producing graduates aligned with industry needs and the government’s vision for higher education,” he concluded.
