You Guided Me in My Political Journey – Tinubu Celebrates Bisi Akande at 87

President Bola Tinubu has celebrated former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, on his 87th birthday, describing him as a guiding influence throughout his political career.

In a statement marking the occasion, Tinubu praised Akande’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and the founding of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He hailed Akande as a mentor, leader, and steadfast advocate for democracy, social justice, and good governance, whose influence continues to shape the nation’s political landscape.

“Baba Akande has contributed immensely to the growth and development of this country and to the emergence and institutionalisation of democracy,” Tinubu said.

The President highlighted Akande’s long-standing public service record, recalling his tenure as Secretary to the State Government of the old Oyo State in 1979, Deputy Governor during the Second Republic, and Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003.

Tinubu also acknowledged Akande’s pivotal role as the first National Chairman of the APC, crediting his leadership with laying the groundwork for the party’s historic victory in 2015, which ended the tenure of an incumbent federal government.

Even at 87, Tinubu noted, Akande remains a vocal champion of democratic ideals, providing mentorship and guidance that Tinubu himself credits for his rise to the presidency.

“Even at 87, Baba Akande remains a strident advocate, supporter, and fighter for the ideals of democracy, social justice, and good governance,” he said.

The President concluded by praying for Akande’s continued good health and strength, while commending his enduring support for the APC and the ongoing implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
