Yvonne Jegede Marks 20 Years in Nollywood, Announces Plan to Educate 5,000 Children

Nollywood star Yvonne Jegede is set to celebrate a major milestone—20 years in the Nigerian movie industry. Filled with gratitude and reflection, the actress says the journey has been one of grace, growth, and self-discovery.

Speaking in an interview ahead of her anniversary celebration, Jegede expressed deep appreciation for her longevity in Nollywood.

“The emotions I feel are fulfillment, gratitude, and love. Some of the people who joined the industry when I did are no longer here, so I’m grateful for the grace that has brought me this far and kept me relevant,” she said.

‘A Rebirth’ After Two Decades in Film

Jegede described her evolution over the years as a shedding of layers—each one revealing a stronger, more refined version of herself.

She noted that the 20-year mark feels like a “rebirth,” representing a new phase in her career and personal journey.

“The last 20 years have been a period of self-discovery, especially because I started young. I have discovered many potentials I am now ready to explore. Every rebirth comes with new vision and renewed gusto,” she added.

Launching a Foundation and Investment Company

To commemorate the milestone, Jegede will unveil two major initiatives: a foundation and an investment company. Her goal is to promote financial literacy and sustainability among actors and creatives.

“My mission is to ensure that creatives start investing in their future. We need to stop the trend of celebrities enjoying fame but ending up in poverty or seeking public help during health or financial crises,” she said.

Already Supporting 18 Children—Now Aiming for 5,000

Jegede revealed that she has privately taken responsibility for the education of 18 children, choosing to shield them from the public eye while providing long-term support.

“I’m so proud of them. I get emotional when they call me ‘mummy,’” she said.

She also supports single parents and other charitable causes. With the structure her foundation will provide, Jegede aims to significantly expand her impact.

Her goals include:

  • Helping 5,000 children access education within the next five years
  • Empowering 100 single parents with business funding in the next two years

“It’s time to build a team and partner with others so I can reach more children and create bigger impact,” she said.
