The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged Northerners to take advantage of the ongoing voter card registration to ensure they are ready for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 27 local government chapters of the Forum in Dutse, ACF State Chairman Aminu Dalhatu highlighted concerns over low voter registration turnout in the region. He noted that backwardness in education has left the North lagging in civic engagement, including electoral participation.
Dalhatu stressed the importance of active participation in the registration exercise, urging Northerners to protect the region’s interests by registering en masse.
“I believe that in the last four years, many people have become eligible to vote — some have reached the minimum voting age, while others have relocated to different parts of the country. Yet, the turnout for this exercise in Jigawa remains far from satisfactory,” he said.
The Forum emphasized the need for increased public enlightenment campaigns to encourage citizens to participate and pledged to complement government efforts in raising awareness about voter registration.
