The trial of former Minister of Power and Steel, Dr. Olu Agunloye, resumed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, with a prosecution witness alleging that Agunloye forged the contract award letter for the controversial $6 billion Mambilla Power Project.
The ex-minister faces seven amended counts related to official corruption and the fraudulent award of the Mambilla project contract to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited (SPTCL) in 2003.
Prosecution witness Umar Hussein Babangida testified that the contract letter dated May 22, 2003, was a false representation and self-incriminating, while records of the May 21, 2003, Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting confirmed Agunloye’s presence. Babangida also revealed he interviewed former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Attorney-General Kanu Agabi, though no written reports of the interviews were produced.
The trial was adjourned to December 1, 2025, for the continuation of the cross-examination of the witness.
